Stratford’s central heritage district stretches for miles, filled with some of the finest conserved 19th century homes, churches, commercial buildings and civic buildings in Canada. Historic bridges span the Avon River linking garden neighbourhoods and parks framed by well tended tree-lined avenues. Internationally recognized for our pastoral and historic beauty, Stratford’s streets are full of Ontario cottages, and varied architectural styles from Gothic Revival and the Italianate to Queen Anne and Regency, captured in buff-yellow brick or the red brick of Richardsonian Romanesque civic buildings. Come soak up authentic Canadiana in one of Canada’s best preserved heritage communities at the Stratford Heritage Festival October 17th and 18th. In conjunction with Heritage Stratford and local partners, the weekend will offer Heritage Walks, Strolls and Tours; workshops and talks for those interested in genealogy, furniture restoration and renovating heritage homes; a major quality antiques fair (with an appraiser on-site) and quilt exhibition and a vintage auto show in the downtown heritage district. |
